MEDAIR – Emergency, Relief and Recovery

When seconds count and lives are on the line.

Name: MEDAIR

Mission: Medair is a humanitarian organisation inspired by Christian faith to relieve human suffering in some of the world’s most remote and devastated places. We bring relief and recovery to people in crisis, regardless of race, creed or nationality. As signatories of the International Committee of the Red Cross Code of Conduct, we believe that aid should be given to everyone who is in need, and not be used to further a particular political, social, or religious viewpoint. Our first and last considerations are the needs of the people we serve. We save lives in emergencies and then stay to help people recover from crisis with dignity—working side by side with communities to leave a lasting impact. We do whatever it takes to bring relief where it’s needed most. We provide a range of emergency relief and recovery services: Health care and nutrition. Safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Shelter and infrastructure. In all we do, we pursue the highest professional standards of quality, accountability, and sustainability. Our experienced teams carry out our projects in close connection with communities, listening to their needs, helping them improve their essential services, and providing them with training for the future.

Read More: In a fleeting instant, everything can change. Disasters strike without warning. Armed men can appear at the door in the night. Contagious diseases can devastate communities. Anyone can be caught in the grip of an emergency at any time.

Medair acts swiftly to reach communities in crisis and provide them with life-saving health care, emergency nutrition services, safe drinking water, sanitary latrines, protective shelter, and anything else we can bring them that will help families survive this desperate time.

Think back to January 2010. Haiti changed in a heartbeat. In a matter of seconds, a powerful earthquake shook houses to the ground and killed more than 220,000 people. They had no advance warning, no time to escape. Shocked survivors stumbled to pick up the pieces of their ruined homes, to confront the new reality of their lives.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, change continues to come at the barrel of a gun. Militia groups terrorise communities with frequent attacks. Families flee their homes to gather in camps where they hope to be safer. But in the camps, they have no land to farm, no livelihoods, no rights: nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Change can come in an instant, but it can also be slow and deadly. Consider when ongoing drought led to an emergency food crisis in Somaliland. Communities ran out of water and had little food. Livestock died in the millions, leaving families destitute and children on the brink of survival.

In emergencies like this, the world’s most vulnerable families need urgent relief without delay. At Medair, that’s what we do.

With your help, we are able to respond quickly to emergencies as they erupt around the globe. Discover how you can get involved today.

India

Milaap empowers you to create a lasting change. Loan a little, Change a lot.

Name: Milaap

Location: Bangalore, India

Mission: Milaap (which means ‘connecting people’ in Hindi & Urdu) was initiated in June 2010, by three passionate young entrepreneurs who had a single vision: to change people’s concept of giving and make it a personal, transparent, and sustainable process.

We are a mission-driven company empowering people to be the change they want to see. We are changing the way people fund and impact communities in need. We look to inspire you to do the most and create a lasting impact, the way you have always wanted to.

We support India’s working poor by partnering with proven, credible grass-root level organizations (our Field Partners) to identify deserving borrowers, the amount of financial assistance they need and their goals. Our network of volunteers work with field partners to edit and review their loan profiles. We are then able to link them to people across the world who are willing to fund them. 100% of your funds go to the end borrower, and you have the ability to transparently track repayments and the impact created.

We also support our everyday heroes by sharing their stories with people around the world, connecting them to supporters, and helping them raise funds through Milaap Open. We review their goals, and motivate them through checks on milestones. Our transparent audits help them create accountability to their supporters.

We provide additional features to make the act of giving more fulfilling for you. To make lending a Regular part of your life, we help you setup a simple subscription to benefit a different borrower each month. We help you maximize the impact of your Macro donations and grants. We also connect brands to Engage with causes and initiatives that resonate with their identities. We help them plan, organize, and execute events and drives, channeling your Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to create a lasting social impact.

Why Support and How you can help: Milaap does not take any cut from the funds you lend or donate towards the borrowers identified and featured by our field partners. Instead, Milaap charges its field partners a 5% fee for the funds raised.

This allows us to cover a fraction of our costs and work towards achieving self-sustainability. Till we achieve scale and reach a point where this fee is enough to cover our costs, we raise investment from individuals and institutions who believe in and share our vision.

For Milaap Open campaigns, of the funds donated to each project, the project creators, our heroes, pay out a 5% service charge to cover our comparatively minimal marketing expenses incurred to distribute and promote their stories across online media channels, driving awareness and attracting supporters to their causes.

Kids, Mexico

Give New Life (Mano de Ayuda)

Name: Give New Life (Formerly Mano de Ayuda)

Location: Michoacán, Mexico

Mission: Give New Life, a place of love, faith and hope. Josue and Karla Cook, current directors of the orphanage, have dedicated their lives to rescuing children at risk in the Michoacan, Mexico area. Give New Life, gives a new opportunity, a new life and family to boys and girls that have been abused, abandoned, mistreated and forgotten. Give New Life wants to serve anyone who is helpless and abandoned.

Founded in 1977 by Pastor John Cook, founder and director of “Hand of Help”, initial name of the orphanage, whom during his lifetime had personally tended more than a million people that had come to his clinic every Sunday from different parts of Mexico, all completely for free. 40.000 of these people have received surgeries which they could never have afforded. Pastor Cook lovingly did this till the day that the Lord called him to His Presence.

The kids not only have a refuge, but they are accepted into this new family, currently 28 kids, where through the love of Jesus they receive help to overcome the traumas and the physical and emotional wounds which they bring from their past. The kids receive solid foundations, and even in the small details they are taught to do everything with excellence, to do things with love and for God. They are provided education, health and the love they never had before.
